GOD CALLS

CALL TO WORSHIP

LEADER:

In your wisdom, O God, you call us here to worship you.

ALL:

We gather, alive to the Word of God.

LEADER:

You call us to be fully alive with your life abundant,

ready to listen and respond with heart, soul, strength, and mind.

ALL:

We listen, alive to the Word of God.

LEADER:

You call us to be always watchful for your Word of wisdom,

sometimes startling and unexpected,

sometimes still and quiet,

but always dwelling among us.

ALL:

We watch and wait for the Word of God.

SONG - BE THOU MY VISION

(© Public Domain. CCLI # 30639)

Be Thou my vision

O Lord of my heart

Naught be all else to me

Save that Thou art

Thou my best thought

By day or by night

Waking or sleeping

Thy presence my light

Be Thou my wisdom

Be Thou my true Word

I ever with Thee

And Thou with me Lord

Thou my great Father

I Thy true son

Thou in me dwelling

And I with Thee one

Riches I heed not

Nor man's empty praise

Thou mine inheritance

Now and always

Thou and Thou only

Be first in my heart

High King of heaven

My treasure Thou art

High King of heaven

When vict'ry is won

May I reach heaven's joys

O bright heaven's Sun

Heart of my own heart

Whatever befall

Still be my vision

O Ruler of all

SONG - REST ON US

(© 2019 Bethel Worship Publishing; Brandon Lake Music; Heritage Worship Music Publishing; Heritage Worship Publishing; Maverick City Publishing; Maverick City Publishing Worldwide; Tony Brown Music Designee; Elyssa Marie Music; UR Creative; A New Song For A New Day Music; CCLI Song # 7126736)

As the Spirit was moving over the water

Spirit come move over us

Come rest on us come rest on us

Come down Spirit when You move

You make my heart pound

When You fill the room

You're here and I know You are moving

I'm here and I know You will fill me

Fire and wind come and do it again

Open up the gates let Heaven on in

Come rest on us come rest on us

Holy Spirit

Come rest on us

You're all we want You're all we want

SONG - KING OF KINGS

(© 2018 Hillsong Music Publishing CCLI Song # 7127647 -- CCLI License # 2821054)

In the darkness we were waiting

Without hope without light

Till from Heaven You came running

There was mercy in Your eyes

To fulfil the law and prophets

To a virgin came the Word

From a throne of endless glory

To a cradle in the dirt

Praise the Father

Praise the Son

Praise the Spirit three in one

God of Glory

Majesty

Praise forever to the King of Kings

To reveal the kingdom coming

And to reconcile the lost

To redeem the whole creation

You did not despise the cross

For even in Your suffering

You saw to the other side

Knowing this was our salvation

Jesus for our sake You died

And the morning that You rose

All of heaven held its breath

Till that stone was moved for good

For the Lamb had conquered death

And the dead rose from their tombs

And the angels stood in awe

For the souls of all who'd come

To the Father are restored

And the Church of Christ was born

Then the Spirit lit the flame

Now this Gospel truth of old

Shall not kneel shall not faint

By His blood and in His Name

In His freedom I am free

For the love of Jesus Christ

Who has resurrected me

GOD CLEANSES

PRAYER OF CONFESSION

ALL:

Eternal and merciful God,

you have loved us with a love beyond our understanding,

and you have set us on paths of righteousness for your name’s sake.

Yet we have strayed from your way;

we have sinned against you in thought, word, and deed,

through what we have done and what we have left undone.

As we remember the lavish gift of your grace,

we praise you and give you thanks that you forgive us yet again.

Grant us now, we pray, the grace to die daily to sin,

and to rise daily to new life in Christ,

who lives and reigns with you,

and in whose strong name we pray.

Amen.

SILENT CONFESSION

WORDS OF ASSURANCE

—Psalm 145:13-14, NRSV

The LORD is faithful in all his words,

and gracious in all his deeds.

The LORD upholds all who are falling,

and raises up all who are bowed down.

SONG OF ASSURANCE - I WILL WAIT FOR YOU (PSALM 130

(© 2018 Getty Music Publishing; Jordan Kauflin Music; Matthew Merker Music; Townend Songs. CCLI Song # 7118914)

Out of the depths I cry to You

In darkest places I will call

Incline Your ear to me anew

And hear my cry for mercy Lord

Were You to count my sinful ways

How could I come before Your throne

Yet full forgiveness meets my gaze

I stand redeemed by grace alone

I will wait for You I will wait for You

On Your word I will rely

I will wait for You surely wait for You

Till my soul is satisfied

So put Your hope in God alone

Take courage in His power to save

Completely and forever won

By Christ emerging from the grave

His steadfast love has made a way

And God Himself has paid the price

That all who trust in Him today

Find healing in His sacrifice

I will wait for You I will wait for You

Through the storm and through the night

I will wait for You surely wait for You

For Your love is my delight

GOD COMMUNES

SCRIPTURE READING

1 Thessalonians 2:13-16

3 And we also thank God continually because, when you received the word of God, which you heard from us, you accepted it not as a human word, but as it actually is, the word of God, which is indeed at work in you who believe. 14 For you, brothers and sisters, became imitators of God’s churches in Judea, which are in Christ Jesus: You suffered from your own people the same things those churches suffered from the Jews 15 who killed the Lord Jesus and the prophets and also drove us out. They displease God and are hostile to everyone 16 in their effort to keep us from speaking to the Gentiles so that they may be saved. In this way they always heap up their sins to the limit. The wrath of God has come upon them at last.

SONG OF RESPONSE - HEAL OUR LAND

(© 2016 Kari Jobe Carnes Music; Worship Together Music; Writer's Roof Publishing; SHOUT! Music Publishing Australia. CCLI Song # 7070516)

You take our lives

Flawed yet beautiful

Restore refine

Lord You're merciful

Redeem revive

Spirit of God

Breathe on Your church

Pour out Your presence

Speak through Your word

We pray in ev'ry nation Christ be known

Our hope and salvation Christ alone

New pow'r new wine

As divisions fall

One church one Bride

Jesus Lord of all

With one voice we cry

So God we pray to You

Humble ourselves again

Lord would You hear our cry

Lord will You heal our land

That ev'ry eye will see

That ev'ry heart will know

The One who took our sin

The One who died and rose

And when Your kingdom comes

And when at last You call

We'll rise to worship You alone

COMMUNION

PRAYER FOR THOSE SEARCHING FOR TRUTH

Lord Jesus, you claim to be the way, the truth, and the life.  Grant that I might be undaunted by the cost of following you as I consider the reasons for doing so. If what you claim is true, please guide me, teach me, and open me to the reality of who you are.  Give me an understanding of you that is coherent, convincing and that leads to the life you promise.  Amen.

PRAYER OF BELIEF

Lord Jesus Christ, I admit that I am weaker and more sinful than I ever dared admit, but through you I am more loved and accepted than I ever dared hope.  I thank you for paying my debt on the cross, taking what I deserved in order to offer me complete forgiveness. Knowing that you have been raised from the dead, I turn from my sins and receive you as my Saviour and Lord.  Amen.
