GOD CALLS

CALL TO WORSHIP

—from Psalm 86:8-10, NRSV

LEADER:

There is none like you, O Lord,

nor are there any works like yours.

ALL:

All the nations you have made shall come

and bow down before you, O Lord,

and shall glorify your name.

For you are great and do wondrous things,

you alone are God.

SONG - MIGHTY TO SAVE

(© 2006 Hillsong Publishing. CCLI # 4591782.)

Ev’ryone needs compassion

Love that's never failing

Let mercy fall on me

Ev’ryone needs forgiveness

The kindness of a Saviour

The hope of nations

Saviour He can move the mountains

My God is mighty to save

He is mighty to save

Forever Author of salvation

He rose and conquered the grave

Jesus conquered the grave

So take me as You find me

All my fears and failures

Fill my life again

I give my life to follow

Ev’rything I believe in

Now I surrender

Shine your light and let the whole world see

We're singing

For the glory of the risen King

Jesus

Shine your light and let the whole world see

We're singing

For the glory of the risen King

SONG - KING OF HEAVEN

(© 2010 Spirit Nashville Three. Admin. by Crescendo Royalty Funding LP. CCLI Song # 5997804)

Jesus let Your kingdom come here

Let Your will be done here in us

Jesus there is no one greater

You alone are Savior show the world Your love

King of heaven come down

King of heaven come now

Let Your glory reign shining like the day

King of heaven come

King of heaven rise up

Who can stand against us

You are strong to save in Your mighty name

King of heaven come

We are children of Your mercy

Rescued for Your glory

We cry Jesus set our hearts towards You

That ev'ry eye would see You lifted high

King of heaven come

King of heaven come

King of heaven come

Oh King of heaven come

SONG - FIRM FOUNDATION (HE WON'T)

(© 2021 A.L.K.D. Music; Capitol CMG Paragon; Writer's Roof Publishing; For Humans Publishing; Maverick City Publishing. CCLI Song # 7188203)

Christ is my firm foundation

The rock on which I stand

When everything around me is shaken

I've never been more glad

That I put my faith in Jesus

'Cause He's never let me down

He's faithful through generations

So why would He fail now

He won't He won't

I've still got joy in chaos

I've got peace that makes no sense

So I won't be going under

I'm not held by my own strength

'Cause I've built my life on Jesus

He's never let me down

He's faithful in every season

So why would He fail now

He won't He won't

He won't fail

He won't fail (no)

(Oh) Rain came and wind blew

But my house was built on You

(And) I'm safe with You

I'm going to make it through

Yeah I'm going to make it through

'Cause I'm standing strong on You

Yeah I'm going to make it through

'Cause my house is built on You

He won't He won't

He won't fail

He won't fail no He won't

GOD CLEANSES

PRAYER OF CONFESSION

—based on Daniel 9:4-19

LEADER:

O Lord, great God,

all holy, Father most gracious,

filled with mercy and steadfast love,

we are embarrassed to come before you,

for we have preferred the ways of this world to your ways,

for we have rebelled against your wisdom

and we have gotten into trouble,

for we have rejected your fatherly guidance

and have gotten lost altogether.

To you belongs righteousness, O Lord,

and to us confusion of face.

O Lord, great God,

all holy, filled with awe,

Father, most gracious,

filled with mercy and steadfast love,

incline your ear to our troubles.

Hear us when we pour out our sorrows before you.

Forgive us,

not on the ground of our own righteousness,

but on the ground of your great mercy.

On the ground of your great mercy

in the gift of your Son, Jesus Christ.

It is in his name that we pray,

for he is our saviour and the mediator of the covenant of grace.

ALL:

Amen.

SILENT CONFESSION

WORDS OF ASSURANCE

—Psalm 103:8, 13-14, 17-18, NRSV

The LORD is merciful and gracious,

slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love.

As a father has compassion for his children,

so the LORD has compassion for those who fear him.

For he knows how we were made;

he remembers that we are dust.

But the steadfast love of the LORD is from

everlasting to everlasting

on those who fear him,

and his righteousness to children’s children,

to those who keep his covenant

and remember to do his commandments.

SONG OF ASSURANCE - GOOD GOOD FATHER

(Anthony Brown, Pat Barrett/© 2014 Capitol CMG Paragon) CCLI# 2821054

I've heard a thousand stories

Of what they think You’re like

But I've heard the tender whisper

Of love in the dead of night

You tell me that You’re pleased

And that I'm never alone

You're a Good Good Father

It's who You are

It's who You are

It's who You are

And I'm loved by You

It's who I am

It's who I am

It's who I am

I've seen many searching for answers

Far and wide

But I know we're all searching for answers

Only You provide

Because You know just what we need

Before we say a word

You are perfect in all of Your ways

You are perfect in all of Your ways

You are perfect in all of Your ways to us

Love so undeniable I can hardly speak

Peace so unexplainable I can hardly think

As You call me deeper still

As You call me deeper still

As You call me deeper still

Into love love love

GOD COMMUNES

SCRIPTURE READING

Habakkuk 1:12-13; 2:1-4, 8-20

12 O LORD, are you not from everlasting? My God, my Holy One, we will not die. O LORD, you have appointed them to execute judgment; O Rock, you have ordained them to punish. 13 Your

eyes are too pure to look on evil; you cannot tolerate wrong. Why then do you tolerate the treacherous? Why are you silent while the wicked swallow up those more righteous than themselves?

1 I will stand at my watch and station myself on the ramparts; I will look to see what he will say to me, and what answer I am to give to this complaint. 2 Then the LORD replied: “Write down the revelation and make it plain on tablets so that a herald may run with it. 3 For the revelation awaits an appointed time; it speaks of the end and will not prove false. Though it linger, wait for it; it will certainly come and will not delay. 4 “See, he is puffed up; his desires are not upright — but the righteous will live by his faith —

8 Because you have plundered many nations, the peoples who are left will plunder you. For you have shed man’s blood; you have destroyed lands and cities and everyone in them. 9 “Woe to him who builds his realm by unjust gain to set his nest on high, to escape the clutches of ruin! 10 You have plotted the ruin of many peoples, shaming your own house and forfeiting your life. 11 The stones of the wall will cry out, and the beams of the woodwork will echo it. 12 “Woe to him who builds a city with bloodshed and establishes a town by crime! 13 Has not the LORD Almighty determined that the people’s labor is only fuel for the fire, that the nations exhaust themselves for nothing? 14 For the earth will be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the LORD, as the waters cover the sea. 15 “Woe to him who gives drink to his neighbors, pouring it from the wineskin till they are drunk, so that he can gaze on their naked bodies. 16 You will be filled with shame instead of glory. Now it is your turn! Drink and be exposed! The cup from the LORD’s right hand is coming around to you, and disgrace will cover your glory. 17 The violence you have done to Lebanon will overwhelm you, and your destruction of animals will terrify you. For you have shed man’s blood; you have destroyed lands and cities and everyone in them. 18 “Of what value is an idol, since a man has carved it? Or an image that teaches lies? For he who makes it trusts in his own creation; he makes idols that cannot speak. 19 Woe to him who says to wood, ‘Come to life!’ Or to lifeless stone, ‘Wake up!’ Can it give guidance? It is covered with gold and silver; there is no breath in it. 20 But the LORD is in his holy temple; let all the earth be silent before him.”

SONG OF RESPONSE - O GOD OF MERCY HEAR OUR PLEA

(© Sovereign Grace Praise. CCLI# 7096628)

O God we've seen Your faithfulness

You brought us from the wilderness

But now our faith is frail and weak

O God of mercy hear our plea

When will You comfort our distress

How long until the promised rest

We cry to You from deepest need

O God of mercy hear our plea

Abba Father our Redeemer

In this barren land be our hope and strength

Until glory we will trust and sing

Abba Father hear our plea

We join creation's longing groan

To take Your ransomed children home

For then the eyes of all will see

The God of mercy hears our plea

For then the eyes of all will see

The God of mercy hears our plea

Ending

Abba Father hear our plea

COMMUNION

PRAYER FOR THOSE SEARCHING FOR TRUTH

Lord Jesus, you claim to be the way, the truth, and the life.  Grant that I might be undaunted by the cost of following you as I consider the reasons for doing so. If what you claim is true, please guide me, teach me, and open me to the reality of who you are.  Give me an understanding of you that is coherent, convincing and that leads to the life you promise.  Amen.

PRAYER OF BELIEF

Lord Jesus Christ, I admit that I am weaker and more sinful than I ever dared admit, but through you I am more loved and accepted than I ever dared hope.  I thank you for paying my debt on the cross, taking what I deserved in order to offer me complete forgiveness. Knowing that you have been raised from the dead, I turn from my sins and receive you as my Saviour and Lord.  Amen.
