GOD CALLS

CALL TO WORSHIP

—from Revelation 15:3-4, NIV

LEADER:

Great and marvelous are your deeds,

Lord God Almighty!

ALL:

Just and true are your ways,

King of the ages.

LEADER:

Who will not fear you, O Lord,

and bring glory to your name?

ALL:

For you alone are holy.

All nations will come and worship you!

SONG - 10,000 REASONS

(© 2011 Thankyou Music, Said And Done Music, and SHOUT! Publishing. CCLI # 6016351)

Bless the Lord O my soul

O my soul

Worship His holy name

Sing like never before

O my soul

I'll worship Your holy name

The sun comes up it's a new day dawning

It's time to sing Your song again

Whatever may pass and whatever lies before me

Let me be singing when the evening comes

You're rich in love and You're slow to anger

Your name is great and Your heart is kind

For all Your goodness I will keep on singing

Ten thousand reasons for my heart to find

And on that day when my strength is failing

The end draws near and my time has come

Still my soul will sing Your praise unending

Ten thousand years and then forevermore

SONG - BECAUSE HE LIVES

(© 1971 William J. Gaither, Inc. CCLI # 16880)

God sent His Son they called Him Jesus

He came to love heal and forgive

He bled and died to buy my pardon

An empty grave is there to prove

My Saviour lives

Because He lives I can face tomorrow

Because He lives all fear is gone

Because I know He holds the future

And life is worth the living

Just because He lives

And then one day I'll cross that river

I'll fight life's final war with pain

And then as death gives way to vict'ry

I'll see the lights of glory

And I'll know He reigns

SONG - OUR GOD

(© 2010 Atlas Mountain Songs, sixsteps Music, Thankyou Music, Vamos Publishing, worshiptogether.com songs. CCLI # 5677416)

Water You turned into wine

Opened the eyes of the blind

There's no one like You

None like You

Into the darkness You shine

Out of the ashes we rise

There's no one like You

None like You

Our God is greater

Our God is stronger

God You are higher than any other

Our God is healer

Awesome in power our God our God

And if our God is for us

Then who could ever stop us

And if our God is with us

Then what could stand against

And if our God is for us

Then who could ever stop us

And if our God is with us

Then what could stand against

(Then) what could stand against

GOD CLEANSES

PRAYER OF CONFESSION

ALL:

Eternal and merciful God,

you have loved us with a love beyond our understanding,

and you have set us on paths of righteousness for your name’s sake.

Yet we have strayed from your way;

we have sinned against you in thought, word, and deed,

through what we have done and what we have left undone.

As we remember the lavish gift of your grace

symbolized in baptism, O God,

we praise you and give you thanks that you forgive us yet again.

Grant us now, we pray, the grace to die daily to sin,

and to rise daily to new life in Christ,

who lives and reigns with you,

and in whose strong name we pray.

Amen.

SILENT CONFESSION

WORDS OF ASSURANCE

—from Acts 13:38; Ephesians 1:7, NRSV

LEADER:

Through Jesus Christ forgiveness of sins

is proclaimed to you.

In Christ we have redemption through his blood,

the forgiveness of our trespasses,

according to the riches of his grace.

ALL:

Thanks be to God!

SONG OF ASSURANCE - REVELATION SONG

(© 2004 Gateway Create Publishing. CCLI # 4447960)

Worthy is the Lamb Who was slain

Holy holy is He

Sing a new song to Him Who sits on

Heaven's mercy seat

Holy holy holy

Is the Lord God Almighty

Who was and is and is to come

With all creation I sing

Praise to the King of kings

You are my ev'rything

And I will adore You

Clothed in rainbows of living colour

Flashes of lightning rolls of thunder

Blessing and honour strength and glory

And power be to You the only wise King

Filled with wonder awestruck wonder

At the mention of Your name

Jesus Your name is power breath and living water

Such a marv'lous mystery

GOD COMMUNES

SCRIPTURE READING

James 2:1-13

Favoritism Forbidden

2 My brothers and sisters, believers in our glorious Lord Jesus Christ must not show favouritism. 2 Suppose a man comes into your meeting wearing a gold ring and fine clothes, and a poor man in filthy old clothes also comes in. 3 If you show special attention to the man wearing fine clothes and say, “Here’s a good seat for you,” but say to the poor man, “You stand there” or “Sit on the floor by my feet,” 4 have you not discriminated among yourselves and become judges with evil thoughts?

5 Listen, my dear brothers and sisters: Has not God chosen those who are poor in the eyes of the world to be rich in faith and to inherit the kingdom he promised those who love him? 6 But you have dishonoured the poor. Is it not the rich who are exploiting you? Are they not the ones who are dragging you into court? 7 Are they not the ones who are blaspheming the noble name of him to whom you belong?

8 If you really keep the royal law found in Scripture, “Love your neighbour as yourself,” you are doing right. 9 But if you show favouritism, you sin and are convicted by the law as lawbreakers. 10 For whoever keeps the whole law and yet stumbles at just one point is guilty of breaking all of it. 11 For he who said, “You shall not commit adultery,” also said, “You shall not murder." If you do not commit adultery but do commit murder, you have become a lawbreaker.

12 Speak and act as those who are going to be judged by the law that gives freedom, 13 because judgment without mercy will be shown to anyone who has not been merciful. Mercy triumphs over judgment.

SONG OF RESPONSE - COME AS YOU ARE

(© 2014 One Songs, Ariose Music, sixsteps Music, Thankyou Music. CCLI # 7017790)

Come out of sadness from wherever you've been

Come broken-hearted let rescue begin

Come find your mercy O sinner come kneel

Earth has no sorrow that Heaven can't heal

Earth has no sorrow that Heaven can't heal

(So) Lay down your burdens lay down your shame

All who are broken lift up your face

O wanderer come home

You're not too far

So lay down your hurt lay down your heart

Come as you are

There's hope for the hopeless

And all those who've strayed

Come sit at the table come taste the grace

There's rest for the weary

Rest that endures

Earth has no sorrow that Heaven can't cure

Come as you are

Fall in His arms

Come as you are

There's joy for the morning O sinner be still

Earth has no sorrow that Heaven can't heal

Earth has no sorrow that Heaven can't heal

Come as you are

Come as you are

Come as you are

COMMUNION

PRAYER FOR THOSE SEARCHING FOR TRUTH

Lord Jesus, you claim to be the way, the truth, and the life.  Grant that I might be undaunted by the cost of following you as I consider the reasons for doing so. If what you claim is true, please guide me, teach me, and open me to the reality of who you are.  Give me an understanding of you that is coherent, convincing and that leads to the life you promise.  Amen.

PRAYER OF BELIEF

Lord Jesus Christ, I admit that I am weaker and more sinful than I ever dared admit, but through you I am more loved and accepted than I ever dared hope.  I thank you for paying my debt on the cross, taking what I deserved in order to offer me complete forgiveness. Knowing that you have been raised from the dead, I turn from my sins and receive you as my Saviour and Lord.  Amen.
